Christmas topiary

When I saw this photo over at BHG I knew I had to have it. No doubt, it had to be mine. I do love the colors but they wouldn’t go with much in my house at the moment, so I had to improvise.

I made a ton of these Santa Jars last year to give Oreo truffles in so I just made another big ol’ one.

You can’t really mess this up, red body, white paint for fur, black belt and a silver buckle, last year the buckles were gold. This year, gold was not in my stash, which actually worked out because I used red and silver ornaments.

Fate I tell you. ;)

Now take your foam ball and heat up your glue gun. Put a rim of glue around each neck of the ornaments then stick them in place. I used mini ornaments to fill in the gaps.

(Yes, I do my best work on the kitchen floor.)

Looking back on this project I would most definitely spray paint the ball first, you can still kind of see green, oh well live and learn.

Glue the top and bottom of the dowel and stick it in the foam ball and the foam blocks and stick it in your pot. Throw some left over fake snow from your mantel project in the pot to hide the the dusty devil green floral foam. Done and done! See how easy that was?

The most tedious part was filling in the gaps with the minis, and painting a straight line for the belt when all I had was a large foam brush. For now, I’ll live with a little smudginess. Ohhh, the things you do to insure you finish a project before DIY day. ;)

Hello Rachelle ~I’ve just strolled in for my first visit…I’ve enjoyed taking a peek at your past posts. You’ve got so many wonderful treasures. Your blog is so beautifully inviting.
We share similar taste for so many of the same creative design elements.

As fall came to a close I looked forward to winter (that’s fast approaching), bringing a festive inspiration for a few DIY decorations and gifts, with a little baking in between.
Don’t you love the aroma that fills the air during this season?
My cat also appreciates the evergreens and an occasional ping pong toss of my (newly created and not yet dried) ornaments…

I look forward to coming by your charming blog again.
Come by for a visit. Your company would be nice.

    Sweet holiday wishes,
    Sara

I saw a picture of the BHG ones a few weeks ago and loved them. Yours are so cute, and I love the Santa belt. I’d attempt one, but my life is consumed by the sequined tree I’m trying to finish! Thanks for sharing.

fantastic points altogether, you simply received a logo new|a new} reader. What may you recommend in regards to your publish that you made some days ago? Any positive?

Ok, FABULOUS idea! Love it and already have started it! lol…no time like the present! I do have a few questions though. How many coats of paint did you have to use in order to get that kind of coverage? Also did you prime the pot or did you put a sealer/gloss coat on it to seal it? Oh and what is the fluffy stuff in the pot to emulate what would normally be Spanish moss in a topiary? GREAT blog!

Had this pinned to Pinterest from last year…I am thinking of making this, but instead of painting the white stripe around the top, using some fake fur I have left from another project! This idea is too adorable!
