Summer wanna be mantel

Yes, I'm well aware it's spring still. But I was aching for some summer in my life. Besides, who can resist some seashells, beach signs and rope balls? I know I can't! I could have and would have added much more to the mix but my faux mantel can only fit so much. Truthfully I think I maxed her out and I'm waiting any day for that (heavy) beach sign to fall on our t.v. Mr. P probably likes that idea since we seem to be the only ones on the earth without a flat screen!

The tray is from Hobby Lobby, I turned it around and hung a starfish from it kind of like Beth and Layla did with theirs. It's simple and cute I think. At first I thought it looked like Patrick Star hanging there lifeless, I've overcome that out of the passion to decorate though. High five.

The other beach items came from my recent trip to Home Goods. :) Why oh why don't we have one in our town? That store sucked me in. Alright well there you have it! My fast forward to summer faux mantel.

Yeah I have the tacks up still from Christmas.. What about it?

Did you enter the giveaway yet?

Don't forget to stop by Beth's for the partayyy.

Don't be that girl from Jersey shore.

You know, the one who carried her stuff in garbage bags.

Okay, well let's be honest. Don't try to be any of those girls from the T.V show Jersey Shore.

Unless of course, it's at home, while listening to M.J, as you're acheiving the biggest poof ever. Then it's okay.

Shoot we got off topic.

Okay, the point?
I have bags.
Cuter than garbage bags. :)

Ones with ticking, and burlap.

And, ones with giant flower pins the size of your head. :)

Don't forget the giveaway that ends tomorrow! Win you some earrings girlfriend!

Dresser o' Dresser

See that dresser over yonder?

Yes, I've had it for about a billion years. Before that? It was my *great* Grandma's. Needless to say it's a tad dated but in great condition and a little sentimental to me, being that it's the last piece I have that was hers. Something I found out just this year was that it isn't the original stain it was when it was brand spankin' new! I like to think that "GG" was an avid do-it-yourselfer like me who didn't need a man to pretty up her furniture. Nice thought eh? Maybe that's where my craziness comes from.
Or maybe she bought it like that, I like my first idea better.

Okay, so we have a dated dresser and a can of paint. Voila. Magic happens when those two things combine. They make a shabby chic love child dresser.

I started with a few coats of semi-gloss soft white. It felt right, remember to always go with what feels right. After she was painted to my liking I sanded her down, and cleaned her off and prepped her for some staining. I wanted her to look aged and have the little curves and crevices peek out, this is where staining will accent those lovely little bits!! Then, I wanted to take it a step further and dry brush some bright white on it. Crazy? Maybe. But I like it, you can see the soft greyish white through the stain and the bright white. It looks so nice in person. Since she'll be in the bedroom she shouldn't have too much wear and tear. However, we are planning a move and you can't be to careful with bumps and nicks when you're moving furniture. I've been reading up on protective coating and plan on putting something on it, but not today. I also need to touch up the inside parts by the drawers. Shoot. ;) Good thing I want it too look beat up and ragged huh?! I also changed up the hardware to some brushed nickle, my absolute favorite. It matches my curtain rods---that you've yet to see. I'm such a tease. I could drag this out for a year, haha. I mean I've only posted about the dresser 13 times right?

I also added a little plant from my IKEA trip, and that cute bottle with the sea shell from HomeGoods, but how easy would that be to DIY? Can't wait to put a message in it for my lovies.  Okay I promise that's the last time I show you the little corner with the dresser. Done, zip zilch.

Feature Yourself Friday!

Hello hello! Did you see some of the amazingness this week?

I might not be the biggest coffee fanatic out there, but believe me if I was I'd be rockin' a coffee station like this!!

The cow queen got a new lens. I'm uber jealous. Lovin' her pictures!

Okay, the girls at Lemon Tree Creations NEVER disappoint. They link up every week and stun me each time! Reclaimed T shirts! Wall art! What? Okay I sounded super cheesy right there. Let's go ahead and let that out there. But I'm serious-- go check it out. :)

Love what Anita did with her starfish :)

My friend Katie linked up this week-- So happy she did, look at her ring! Patiently waiting for her to send me one. ;)

Okay so keep them coming! Remember the rules perma link, link back, comment, have fun! Show us whatcha got girls!

Jute monogram on Etsy!

Remember this beauty?

Well then I made this beauty, for my Mom of course.

And, well.. Now I can't stop. Want one? You can find them in my Etsy shop!

In other news, I'm probably the last person on the planet to finally switch to the new updated editor for blogger. What the heck am I doing wrong? I had to write it all in HTML, and anytime I click on the compose page it just shoots that little small/med/large box at me! If I click enter it just makes tons of signatures for me. Tell me, what am I doing wrong!? Save me. Before I go back and have tiny pictures for the rest of my life.

Making it pretty

Yes, I'm well aware that most cork boards function by being the message center, idea center, memo board. But who says they can't be PRETTY? When I pictured my giant cork board for the entry way I knew a few lovely things would end up on it that I just didn't want to forget about, like an upcoming wedding. Miss Lindsay might be upset if Mr. P forgets to stand up behind her fiancee` huh? That was a close one.

So see? One vital piece of information has made it to the cork board. Everything else is just pure bliss. Wanna see?
First up, a lover-ly photo, in a frame hung by a tack. What's so amazing about this picture? Well it's the beach and my husband doing what he does best, playing with my favorite youngest daughter. At first, I'll be honest I thought they were both my kids when come to find out after close inspection-- the other child doesn't belong to me. Opps! I put it in a dollar store frame, with tacks hot glued to the back. Hello lover.

Next up, my "practice a zig zag on the sewing machine" mini pendant banner. LOVE IT. Like, hard core love it. I had the tiniest bit of that pretty turquoise fabric left and made 3 little flags with it and 4 burlap flags. Then tried my hardest to make a straight zig zag on some brown ribbon. Don't look at how many times I messed up. It's bad. I'm learning okay? ;)

Then, I had to jazz up some tacks. To do this I simply hot glued them to some sea shells that I lovingly stole from LB1. Beachy and beautiful!

Remember those "Family" plaques that were all the rage during Christmas 2 years ago? Well I had a bunch of "Blessed" ones packed away and decided to get one out and spring it up. What was a yellowish crackle is now a turquoise messy yellow crackle.

ha.

But really I smeared some paint on and wiped it off. It was that simple! It looks old and beat up and messy and beautiful. Remember Nester's mantra! To add a little kick to it I tied some ribbon in knots around the handle. The message isn't to bad either. We are very blessed. :)
I'm sure more treasures will find its way to the big ol' board. But for now it's working and it's lovely to me. It might not make sense to everyone, but hey-- they don't live here!

Happy weekend!
