Feature Yourself Friday {And a Giveaway!}

It’s May! It’s May!? Holy bologna April flew by. But, it’s FINALLY nice enough out that we can be outside planting flowers, and playing in the sun. I love it. Bring on the hot weather {so I can complain about it in June, of course.} But anyway, with May comes Mother’s Day.. You know, the day where us Mamas get all the lovin’ and hugs and kisses? Yeah, well how about some bling too? The people at Blue Nile sent me a little Mother’s Day gift the other day {squeal!!!} and better yet? They sent one for you too!

Seriously they’re gorgeous. Super shiny, sparkly, and dangly.

They’re pretty enough to be dressed up, or wear them with your t-shirt, cropped jeans, and flip flops like I did all day today. They took my blahhh outfit to fabulous, if you ask me.

Awesome hand print trees. I’ll have to do this with the girls, they’d love it!

Jute napkin rings. I love me some jute, and these look easy and fabulous! Love the different embellishments she used.

In honor of me getting a new washer and dryer this week {squeel} enjoy these laundry room re-do’s too!

Okay there was one more I saw and I swore to myself it was at FYF, but anyways, it was a laundry room with a old ladder on the wall, she said she used to use it in her kids room. It was a GORGEOUS laundry room, and now I’ve lost it. If you’re out there fancy LR, come back to me. Please. :)

Love it! Anyway, you know the drill. Let’s do this!

Entry way part….17.5 million

Start..drab..boring..orthopedic looking waitress shoes..

Something cozy welcome us home, we’re done!
Let’s see that before and After again

I’d still like a fabulous door to walk into the kitchen with, but that takes time and money. Both of which I don’t have right now. :) But I adore my new entry way. I did it myself (besides some saw help from B.D) Surprised husband with my talents, and gave the girls a place where they can forget to put their snow gear. I love it.

Kitchen window switcheroo

Remember this window that I covered up one day while I was getting ready for our impromptu open house?

Yess… well that very same window was pretty sad for 6 months after I did that. Okay, I truly and whole heartily believe that any window is better with some toile on it but c’mon. I only used two tacks and besides that? The print was sideways! :) But, I’m a “use what you have girl”. And, on that day I did just that. Today… I have some thing else! :) Welcome home, blue and cream ticking, welcome home. Two panels 18 inches long, I needed two because with the pleats I made, one wouldn’t cover the whole window.

Geesh I’m good at this huh. Let’s just move onto the pictures.

Anyone who sews should avert your eyes. This might make you sick. Everyone else, whip out your glue guns & hemming tape and lets get goin! I wanted the pleats pretty big so I measured and by measuring I mean, counting the lines in the print. :) 10 seemed good, 11 looked better. Yes one whole line made the difference. No joking aside. :)

Grab it, put a dab of glue and fold it. Then another 11 lines and I made another fold the opposite way. So on and so on.

Till you get to the painful end of the road. I was half way there and out of fabric. Shoot, huh?

No grab the other piece of fabric and start another pleat.

Yep that’s just how I roll. You can’t even tell it’s two pieces, well.. Now that I told you, you probably will. But, we’re in the tree of trust I wouldn’t lie to you.

Ahh looks good. Just needs a nice ironing. But, hmm it was missing something. A little pizazz. I didn’t have any trim around but I did have a pound of jute twine. It needed to be a little more substantial than one little piece, so I took three and braided them together.

Like my little make shift braiding station? It doubled as a jump rope that day!

Once the mile long braid was done I took my hemming tape a started ironing it to the end of the panel.

This is when I cussed myself out for not thinking about doing this first. Ughh. But you know I was not about to rip it all apart and start over. But if you’re thinking of doing this. Just put the trim on first, it wont mess up your pleats that way. It wasn’t too bad but, eh live and learn.

Once it was done I took a 3 dollar rod from Target and hiked it up about 6 inches above the window and my cabinets. With such a small kitchen we’re working with anything that can add the illusion of height to a room, I’ll take it!

Stand back in awe. A little nautical, a little fun. I like it!

Amanda’s having a party! Do it, Go there! Plus she got a makeover. Lovin’ it! :)

The DIY Show Off

Home for the Holidays

I’m not quite done with my Holiday decorating but I’m sure I’ll be tweaking things until Christmas Eve so I might as well show what I have now right?

Welcome to my home, come on in.

Dollar store wreath

A lovely faux mantel, with all my favorite things. Sticks, twine, berries and shells. Oh and it didn’t cost a million bucks! Love it.

Of course, the icing on the cupcake, the tree. In all it’s gold glory. Dollar store ornaments and burlap, you can’t beat it. Still missing the topper but one is s-l-o-w-l-y being made.

Watch out for Christopher, he’s keeping an eye on you.

And, lastly of course my recent addition, a Santa topiary. Another dollar store creation. I’m addicted I tell you!

Anyway, Thank you for stopping by, so happy to have you! Merry Christmas and come back soon!

Christmas topiary

When I saw this photo over at BHG I knew I had to have it. No doubt, it had to be mine. I do love the colors but they wouldn’t go with much in my house at the moment, so I had to improvise.

I made a ton of these Santa Jars last year to give Oreo truffles in so I just made another big ol’ one.

You can’t really mess this up, red body, white paint for fur, black belt and a silver buckle, last year the buckles were gold. This year, gold was not in my stash, which actually worked out because I used red and silver ornaments.

Fate I tell you. ;)

Now take your foam ball and heat up your glue gun. Put a rim of glue around each neck of the ornaments then stick them in place. I used mini ornaments to fill in the gaps.

(Yes, I do my best work on the kitchen floor.)

Looking back on this project I would most definitely spray paint the ball first, you can still kind of see green, oh well live and learn.

Glue the top and bottom of the dowel and stick it in the foam ball and the foam blocks and stick it in your pot. Throw some left over fake snow from your mantel project in the pot to hide the the dusty devil green floral foam. Done and done! See how easy that was?

The most tedious part was filling in the gaps with the minis, and painting a straight line for the belt when all I had was a large foam brush. For now, I’ll live with a little smudginess. Ohhh, the things you do to insure you finish a project before DIY day. ;)

Rust-oleum Re-vamp Project

Everyone out there knows that the number one go to paint is Rust-Oleum’s Heirloom White. A lovely not so in your face white. So when I was re-doing my little Goodwill table, that was the most obvious choice.

I previously wrote a post about it here, but just for fun look at how lovely she looks tucked next to the Christmas tree. Creamy beautiful white, goes so great with the gold tones in the ornaments & warm white lights on the tree & the creamy white burlap garland. Love, love love her.

1.)Yes my tables are “his” and “hers”.

2.) Sorry about the horrible late night photos.

3.) Hope the Shanty girls don’t get mad at no product picture. But, with the table I used the last bottle of Heirloom White, and well, haven’t since gotten more. Sorry ladies, don’t hate me!
